This is one of my favorite routes and I look forward to sharing it with my fellow Topcats!!

Come for a long lunch run (about 185 mi) to Byron’s Fifth Alarm Firehouse and Pub. Built in 1922, this historic building was the first firehouse in Byron. Over the decades, it housed City Hall, council chambers, Byron’s volunteer fire department and ambulance service, and several charitable organizations. Enjoy the ride and absorb a little Byron history and have a smoking good time!

We will depart from the Shell Station at the Northwest corner of Route 12 and Lake Cook Road in Palatine at 8:30 a.m., pre-ride briefing at 8:45 a.m., and depart 9:00, taking a leisurely stroll through the back roads of northern Illinois to Byron.

After lunch we will head south shouldering the banks of the scenic Rock River to Oregon (Home of Lorado Taft’s Blackhawk sculpture) before turning back east to experience the flat agricultural farmland of Northern Illinois. The ride will end at the Barrington United Methodist Church located at the southeast corner of Illinois routes 59 and 62.
