For those who want to tour, this 280 mile round trip ride has been planned with you in mind. We will depart from the Shell station at the Southwest corner of Highway 176 and Route 14 in Crystal Lake at 8:00 a.m., pre-ride briefing at 8:15 a.m., depart at 8:30 and take a leisurely stroll through the heartland of northern Illinois, linking up with the Stagecoach trail in Lena working ourselves up and around the Galena Territories. We’ll then drop south following the Great River Road along the Mississippi River to Savannah, the home of Poopys Pub & Grub to enjoy a coke and a burger while sitting at their new outdoor patio.
We will set out after lunch to head back to Chicago taking a more traditional approach through Illinois on the state highway system with some nice scenic views and such. Of course, those views will include the typical farm scenery with corn and soybean fields, weathered barns and the occasional herd of cows (and maybe a pig farm or two for the ambient aromas!) The ride will end at the Barrington United Methodist Church located at the southeast corner of Illinois Routes 59 and 62.
