The B.E.S.T. Ride (Bikers Exploring State Terrain)

This is Stewart. I am becoming a Road Captain. Chuck Prettyman is being my mentor.

We have put together a pretty ambitious run down to Starved Rock State Park and back. It’s for those who like to ride in the open country enroute to a nice destination. It is scheduled for Sunday, September 12. The park is looking great. We plan to have lunch at the lodge. It costs about $10. After leaving the park, we plan to stop for awhile in Utica. Ice cream, two leather shops, ice cream, an Irish pub, a few other shops, and ice cream. On the way back, we plan to stop in Hinkley for ice cream. You may want to have ice cream in Hinkley instead of Utica.

We will start gathering at the Shell station on the northwest corner of Hwy 14 and Lake Cook Road (County Line Road) in Barrington around 8:00 am. It’s a nice gas station and there is a Dunkin Donuts across the street. Also a CVS on the other corner. Our meeting will be at 8:20 am and we will leave promptly at 8:30 am. If it’s raining, we won’t go. I’ll just have to reschedule. Please R.S.V.P by Wed, Sep 8, so we can get a headcount for the lodge.

Our ride will take us south on Hwy 25 past the old “Santa’s Village” to Elgin where we will have an adjustment stop. From there we’ll ride to Hinckley for another rest stop. We chose a real neat road that goes through Canyon Hills that we will take along the way.

Lunch in the Park, some time to walk around and a short while in Utica which is near the Park, then retrace our path back to Barrington. If there are those who wish to scamper back home on a faster route, then they can take I-80 east or I-39 north.

I really hope you will be able to go on this ride and be there for my first attempt at being a road captain
