The Paleozoic Plateau, aka the Driftless Region Ride
This is 3 days of riding held on July 2nd thru the 4th. We will be riding most of the driftless region of Southwest Wisconsin. The driftless region is defined as an area of deeply carved river valleys, untouched by glaciers. Whatever you call it, this will be sweet motorcycle riding in mostly back country roads that are legendary to most bikers. You will “ooh and ah” riding this cool hilly and curvy topography with terrific scenic views.
The first day takes us to Spring Green, Wisconsin where we will be lodging at the Round Barn Lodge. We will tour a cheese factory called Cedar Grove Cheese in the afternoon and enjoy a dinner together at a local supper club.
The next day will be unequivocally a phenomenal ride touring most of the region going North of La Crosse, Wisconsin and riding through Wildcat Mountain State Park, the Kickapoo Valley and the Mindoro Cut. Wildcat Mountain State Park is in the Kickapoo Valley with a route through it that will test your mettle! The Kickapoo Valley is extremely scenic and you will be challenged sight-seeing and riding your motorcycle at the same time. Later we will drive through the Mindoro Cut, which is the second deepest cut built by hand in the Western Hemisphere. I call this section “The Tail of the Gecko” because the road geometry has a lot of similarities to “The Tail of the Dragon” located in Deals Gap, North Carolina.
But wait there’s more! How about riding along the Great River Road, Wisconsin side! Too much great riding in one day may kill us but I’m willing to take the chance. How about you?
The Sunday ride home will have a leisurely start. We will be returning home by mid-afternoon making this multi-day weekend easier to do while keeping up with your weekend chores and honey-do lists.
